A GWENT golf club will become the first in the UK to open a Speed Slide for children.
Brothers Benjamin Morgan, 40, Jonathan, 42, and James, 26, who own the family-run Alice Springs Golf Club at Kemeys Commander, near Usk, began building a 30- metre Speed Slide for children aged five and above in December and are hoping to open it on May 14.
Children using the slide, which is green in colour and measures 15 metres wide, will make their way down the slide in a reinforced rubber inner tube.
“We were granted planning permission to become the first golf course in the UK to feature a slide for children that also caters for the disabled.
“It won’t affect golfers as it will be behind the driving range on a natural incline,” Jonathan explained.
“Golf is still the number-one function but this is just a way of bringing people to Alice Springs,” he added.
