A NEWPORT young carer will take to the skies to raise money two charities close to her heart.
Megan Mills, 17, will complete a tandem 13,000ft skydive to mark seven years to the day that she began caring for her dad John, 54, who she helps with his medication, after he was left with a brain injury following a stroke.
The daring fundraiser also falls the day before her 18th birthday and she says it is the perfect way to celebrate.
She said: “I’m excited. My parents think I’m mad but it’s something I have always wanted to do it and it's for a for a good cause.”
Part of the money the Caerleon Comprehensive School pupil will split the money she raises from the event between Newport Carers Forum, which provides supports through local meetings andrepresents carers' views on a local and national level.
The rest of the money will go towards funding the building of a school in Solio near Mount Kenya, which Megan will help build during a seven-week expedition in June with a charity called Moving Mountains, after she visited the region for a similar project last year.
