TRAIN services in Gwent will be severely disrupted this week as Network Rail carries out work to upgrade its infrastructure around Newport.
Engineering work between Cardiff and Rogerstone, Severn Tunnel Junction and Hereford started today and will not be complete until May 17.
Arriva Trains Wales said routes affected would include the Cardiff to Ebbw Vale and Cardiff to Gloucester lines, with bus replacement services and timetable changes on some routes.
Tomorrow and Tuesday there will replacement buses instead of trains between Cardiff and Rogerstone.
On Wednesday and Thursday buses will replace trains between Cardiff and Rogerstone, and on early morning and late night services between Cardiff and Hereford.
On Thursday and Friday the service from Cardiff Central to Manchester Piccadilly will depart 30 minutes earlier from Cardiff, Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool and New Inn, and the Holyhead to Cardiff service will start and terminate at Shrewsbury.
On Friday there will also be buses between Cardiff and Rogerstone, and Newport and Abergavenny after 10pm.
Buses will replace trains between Newport and Abergavenny and Cardiff and Rogerstone on Saturday May 14, while on Sunday May 15 there will be buses between Cardiff and Abergavenny, Severn Tunnel Junction and Rogerstone with cross country services calling at local stations between Severn Tunnel Junction and Gloucester every two hours.
On Monday May 16 and Tuesday May 17 there will be buses between Cardiff and Rogerstone.
The Cardiff Central to Holyhead service will start and terminate at Newport.
Arriva Trains Wales warned that dogs, bikes, prams and other large items of luggage cannot be taken on replacement buses. All changes will be detailed on posters at train stations.
These changes come on top of disruption as a result of signalling improvements to the line between East Usk and Marshfield until May 18, affecting services in and out of Newport from Cardiff, Hereford and Bristol.
