A VALLEYS woman who went out dancing until she was 91 celebrated her 100th birthday at the weekend.

Swffryd-born Daisy Penn welcomed the milestone with a party with friends and family at her home in Ty Derwen residential home, Crumlin, including a performance from singer ‘Our Brian’.

Mrs Penn, who was a Land Girl in London in 1926 when she was 15, also worked as a pen-maker and cleaner in the Valleys throughout her life and lived at home in Swffryd until two days before her 99th birthday.

She was married to husband Ivor, who died aged 66 in 1976, and has a daughter, Shirley Bray, 74, and two grand-daughters, Coral Bouinid, 49, and Dawn Reece, 51.

Mrs Penn also has three great grandsons, Dale Priestley, 18, Gareth Reece, 26, and Matthew Reece, 21.

Mrs Penn’s tip for her long life is “keeping active”.She was a keen dancer who would regularly go line dancing at the Swffryd Club until she was 91.
