THE LONG-AWAITED Serennu Children’s Centre may have opened its doors last month, but the drive for much-needed funds continues.
Last month the first children crossed the threshold of the state-of-the-art facility at High Cross, which will provide therapy and treatment for children and young people who are disable or developmental difficulties, once specialist staff from health and social services and the voluntary sector move across.
Although the centre is open, the Argusbacked Sparkle Appeal still needs your help to reach its £500,000 target for finishing kitting out the facility and helping with day-to-day running costs. One of the appeal’s forthcoming events kills two birds with one stone, by combining fundraising with the centre’s opening celebrations.
The Sparkle Celebration Ball takes place at the Hilton Hotel, Newport, on June 3. Among the special guests at the black tie event will be former Wales and British Lions star and Sparkle patron Colin Charvis. Teams are also needed to take part in a charity golf club competition hosted by Newport Golf Club tomorrow.
The 18-hole contest for teams of four costs £160 per team, which includes a meal afterwards.Tee-times are available from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
