PLANS to convert the dance hall at Newbridge Constitutional Club into three selfcontained three-storey maisonettes are set to be approved.
Members of Caerphilly council’s planning committee will be recommended to approve an application at its meeting tomorrow.
They met on site with officers last month and, while a number of observations were made regarding the impact of the development, a report concluded it would be an “appropriate use” for a building that hasn’t been used for more than 16 years and “is beginning to fall into a state of dilapidation”.
Four letters of objection were received, with observations including the lack of offstreet parking, the fact it will aggravate existing on-street parking problems, impeding emergency vehicle access, with neighbours losing privacy.
Another point was that flats created at nearby Zion Chapel have failed to sell.
However, in the report, written by deputy chief executive Nigel Barnett, it was stated the 21.8-metre wide and eight-metre high development would improve the visual amenity of the surrounding area.
Members of the planning committee will be recommended to grant permission, with a number of conditions attached.
