TWO Gwent AMs could snap up senior roles in the new Assembly when it meets for the first time today.
Sources close to Labour’s Newport West member, Rosemary Butler, believe she is almost certain to be selected as presiding officer in the first sitting of the new Assembly today, while South East Wales Tory William Graham, from Newport, is due to be nominated as her deputy.
Mrs Butler said that her colleagues in the Assembly have encouraged her to put her name forward as presiding officer: She added: “I have agreed to do so, and I am delighted to say that I now have support across the parties.”
