BLAENAU Gwent’s newly elected Labour AM, Alun Davies, said the Labour government was “what the people of Wales voted for and what the people of Gwent voted for”.
Members of all opposition parties recognised Mr Jones’ right to govern, he added, and were not likely to frustrate Labour at the moment.
Newport East AM, Jessica Morden said a Labour-Lib Dem tie-up “wouldn’t have gone down at all well,” with voters from her experience knocking on doors over the last few weeks.
John Griffiths, Newport East AM, said Labour will have to reflect in the next few months on whether or not governing on its own will work.
He added that he would be proud to serve in the government again – he previously had a legal role in the Labour- Plaid coalition.
Mr Griffiths added: “I was very proud to serve as Counsel General and I will be very proud to continue serving in that capacity or to serve the government in other ways.”
