A NEWPORT woman who read about a pensioner being mugged in the Argus was so moved by the story that she is organising a fundraiser to benefit the victim.
Mandy Santini, 33, from Duffryn, read about the attack on Derrick Jones in Friday's Argus and felt she had to do something to help.
Miss Santini, along with her team-mates from the Maindee Conservative Club darts team, Sandra Hughes-Morgan, Jade Morgan and Kristina Wramba decided to organise the raffle to help Mr Jones, who was mugged in daylight for his bus pass and hearing aid.
The women, along with Theresa Clarke, from the West Side Darts League, are now appealing for people and businesses to donate prizes so they can start selling raf-fle tickets ahead of the prize draw at the Orb Club, Maindee, on June 23.
Miss Santini, of Partridge Way, said two of her children, Marco Johansson, 14, and Amee Johansson, 12, are also keen to get involved and will help sell tickets.
She added: "I read the story in the Argus, my grand-father is 85 thls weekend and It struck a nerve with me, I felt I had to do some-thing about it.
"Obviously I can't catch who did it, but perhaps this will restore a bit of faith for him."
