A NEWPORT man is undergoing an agonising wait to see if he will need his thumb amputated after slashing his hand during a motorbike fall.

Jordan Reynolds, 19, of Old Barn Estate, sliced his left hand open after falling off his motorbike two weeks ago.

Mr Reynolds had just set off from a junction at Cromwell Road heading towards Lliswerry Road when his handlebars clipped a car parked at the side of the road, leading to his hand going through the rear window of the car.

The accident left Mr Reynolds with a gash from the bottom of his index finger right across his palm to the top of his wrist, and the cut went so deep that he chipped his thumb bone.

Mr Reynolds was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital following the accident on April 26 after a passerby called an ambulance.

He was then transferred to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where he underwent a three-anda- half-hour operation to treat his chipped bones and damage caused to his tendons.

He now has to return to hospital this week to have around 20 stitches taken out and to see if further treatment is needed.

If the wound has not healed, doctors may have to amputate his thumb.

He said: “Doctors said I was very close to losing my thumb following the accident.

“It could still need amputating now. It is really scary waiting.”
