PUPILS at a Valleys school had a visit from local recycling experts this week.
The youngsters, from Coed-y-Garn Primary School, Nantyglo, saw how their food waste is rolled and crushed together by a Blaenau Gwent council lorry.
Recycling mascots Duster and Bean came along, too, educating the children how to dispose of their waste and to emphasise the importance of recycling food.
The day was part of a number of ongoing activities on their ‘Keen to be green’ project.
Last week, years five and six learned how materials can be reused. The group used their own waste paper, transforming it into coloured and patterned pieces of paper.
Year Five teacher and science coordinator Rosemary Bisof said pupils would be continuing the topic until the end of the summer term.
“The children can see where we recycle in school and why it’s important.
These are real-world issues they will face as they grow older,” she said.
