DRAFT plans for eight new regeneration sites in Ebbw Vale, including space for more than 1,000 homes, will go out to consultation this summer.

Blaenau Gwent council's executive committee received a report earlier this week outlining a framework for the redevelopment of Ebbw Vale's northern corridor and the town centre.

The framework, which was prepared by consultants, highlighted eight key sites which could offer opportunities for future regeneration, including the town's market square and the Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School site, which will become vacant if the school moves to The Works.

The draft proposals will now go out to consultation in June.

Two sites are highlighted for redevelopment in the town centre.

The report said the town's southern gateway could potentially be used for a bus and taxi interchange, offices, retail space and a link to The Works site.

The market square could be redesigned with improved pedestrian facilities.

In the Ebbw Vale northern corridor, the leisure centre area could potentially be used for 240 homes as there are plans to build a new centre on The Works, while the site of Ebbw Vale Comprehensive and Rhyd y Blew could be redeveloped for 470-600 homes, and land west of Waun y Pound Road could get 130-165 dwellings.

The report suggests land north of Ebbw Vale Comprehensive and south of Bryn Serth Road could have a mixed use, including commercial and leisure opportunities.

Land south of Bryn Serth Road is also identified as having potential for roadside services by the A465, while Rhyd y Blew, adjacent in to Bryn Serth Road, could be turned into a strategic employment site.

The report said dates and venues for the consultation will be circulated to Ebbw Vale ward members as soon as possible, and notices will be placed in the town.
