MORE than 1,600 people are expected to bring a sea of colour to Gwent this weekend, as they gear up for the annual In the Pink walk.
The 10th year of the event will see walkers, many dressed in pink, tackle one of three routes starting in the county, in a bid to take the fundraising total to £1 million since it started.
A total of 154 people have signed up for the longest of the routes on Sunday, 20 miles along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, beginning at Goytre Wharf visitor centre.
The ten mile walk, starting at The Bridge in Govilon, has attracted 177 participants, while 191 will begin from The Bridge End in Gilwern, for an eight mile walk.
The rest of the numbers are tackling three other walks along the canal, outside of Gwent, which begin in Brecon, Talybont and Llangynidr, and the latter location's playing fields is the end point for all six walks.
Funding from the event goes towards the In The Pink fellowship scheme, which supports research into breast cancer.
Charity trustee Wendy Kyle said it is hoped this year's walkers will raise £150,000 to make it up to the million mark in the ten years since the event started.
Walkers can register on the day for the various routes- for more information call 01495 308883.
