MONMOUTH AM Nick Ramsay said he will stand to become the Conservative party leader in the Assembly.
The leadership was left vacant when former leader Nick Bourne last his seat at the elections at the beginning of the month.
The interim Welsh Tory leader, Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies, has already said he does not intend to seek the post on a long-term basis.
Nominees need support from three other members of the assembly group, which consists of 14 AMs.
If there more than two candidates emerge, the group has to decide which two names will be put to the membership.
The final result is expected in mid-July.
