A FORMER Cwmbran school is set to become a creche when Torfaen council offices close next year.
The vacant building will become a children’s day care creche to replace the facility which will be lost when County Hall closes in March next year.
The Victorian building on The Highway in Croesyceiliog was originally built as a school but became offices for the former Gwent County Council in the mid-1980s.
The Probation Service used the building until last year when it became vacant.
The newcreche will be used by up to 48 children and 16 employees.
Part of the yard will be used as a play area and the creche could also be used for children’s parties at weekends. A report by council officers revealed some concerns about the increase in traffic from the weekend parties but the parties will be limited to 20 children.
The report also concluded the new creche would not cause any disturbance to the nearby Adult Learning Centre and the aged persons complex Ty George Lansbury.
An application to change the building into a creche was submitted to the council’s planning committee and an inspection panel visit took place on May 11.
The planning committee approved the application at a meeting on Tuesday.
