MAJOR work to resurface the Second Severn Crossings will see traffic restricted to just one lane eastbound over the summer – with the whole thing to be repeated westbound in the autumn.
The Highways Agency confirmed tonight that between June 9 and July 14 only the outer third lane will be open eastbound during the day and night while the inner lane is resurfaced.
From September 6 to October 11 the same lanes will be closed in the opposite direction while the westbound inner lane is replaced.
Transport junior minister Mike Penning told a Welsh Affairs Select Committee debate on the Severn bridges in Westminister Hall today that the work was required because both inside lanes are severly worn and will have to be completely replaced.
