TWO Valleys car enthusiasts are trying to track down the designer of a kit car – believed to be one of only two ever made.
Mark Jenkins of Abertillery and Andrew Hopes of Oakdale want to find Owen Williams, an art teacher from South Wales who designed the Warp 8, originally built in 1973.
The vehicle, described as having a Lamborghini-like shape with gull-wing doors is being rebuilt by the duo.
Mr Jenkins said they were told by a car dealer in Brentwood, Essex, who they bought the car from for £2,750 four years ago, that only two examples of the Warp 8 were ever built.
They later discovered, through an old article in Custom Car Magazine, that the designer had originally made one faulty body for the car before going on to make a fault-free version.
The magazine identified the designer as an Owen Williams, an art teacher from South Wales.
Mr Jenkins said he believes his car is made from the faulty body.
Since they purchased the vehicle the friends, who were once business partners at A & A Spraying Services in Croespenmaen, Blackwood, have been working to rebuild it to bring it back to its former glory.
The two discovered Mr Williams was the designer after finding an article in a 1974 magazine about him.
Mr Jenkins, who said they have not been able to find a more specific address for Mr Williams, added: “If he was still around he would be over the moon to find out that one of his cars has lasted.”
If you can help the pair find Owen Williams, please call Mr Jenkins on 07969 211947.
