A FORMER head chorister at St Mary’s Priory Church in Abergavenny is staging a photography exhibition based on a series of images of something most people want to get rid of – dust.
Sophie Foulkes, 22, who is in the final year of a BA degree in photography at Herefordshire College of Art, is displaying her work as part of the church’s Festival of the Arts in the first week of June.
Miss Foulkes, who lives in Abergavenny, says she believes in ‘making images’ rather than just taking photographs.
The images she will be exhibitiing are from a series called ‘Dust’.
“I have used common household dust, made up of hair, skin, etc, to create images which make the relationship between the cosmic dust that is our origin and the quiet everyday cycle of returning to particles.”
Miss Foulkes’ exhibition is one of three at the festival, alongside one of quilts from Vicky Glyn, a London-based designer who has exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and a series of prints and ceramics from a number of Welsh and English artists.
The festival, from June 2-5, also includes worship, choral concerts and lunchtime recitals.
