THE winners of first South Wales Argus Young Gwent Artist of the Year competition will be announced on June 1.
Sponsored by the University of Wales Newport and with the support of the city's Riverfront Theatre, the competition attracted scores of entries.
Youngsters in both age groups submitted a huge array of work from drawings and paintings to sculptures and an interactive work.
The judging panel of Nicolas Young, theatre and arts director at the Riverfront, and Derek Lawther, Dean of the University's school of art, media and design, and deputy editor of the South Wales Argus Nicole Garnon were given a difficult task of picking the shortlist.
The winners, who will share a total prize pot of £1,500, will be announced at a presentation evening of shortlisted artists and their parents at the Riverfront Theatre on June 1 at 5.30pm.
- Anyone who entered the competition but is not shortlisted and who would like to collect their submission should contact Sue Boyce on 01633 777229 to arrange a date and time.
