A MAN had to be cut free from the wreckage of this car yesterday following a head-on collision with a recovery truck.

A Hillcroft recovery truck collided with a green Peugeot on the A4048 outside Nine Mile Point Industrial Estate, between Wattsville and Cwmfelinfach at around 10am.

Both male drivers were were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, suffering from injuries that are not life-threatening.

An eyewitness, who didn't want to be named, said he was the first person on the scene.

He said the drivers of both vehicles were conscious inside their vehicles, with the Peugeot drivers in his 20s.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue spokesman said two water ladders, a rescue tender and support vehicle from Risca, Cefn Fforest and Malpas were sent.

The road between the Full Moon roundabout, Cross Keys and Ynysddu was closed until around 2pm.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman confirmed the injuries were non llife threatening, saying the road was closed while the vehicles were recovered from the single lane carriageway.
