THE family and friends of Newport missing man John Barrington are holding a charity fun day today to raise money for their campaign to find him.

The 'John Barrington yellow ribbon event' which will include activities ranging from a surf simulator to a Zumba class will be held at Glebelands Park from 12pm until 5pm.

Everyone who attends is asked to wear yellow while yellow ribbons and wristbands will also be sold to raise awareness of the campaign.

The yellow ribbon is a symbol for the support of missing people.

The money raised will be used to fund items including new posters and travel expenses in the search for Mr Barrington.

The Argus previously reported how Mr Barrington, 42, of Worcester Crescent, St Julians, was last seen on April 30 when he was due to meet best friend Lawson Richards to go on a day trip to Weston-Super-Mare but didn't turn up.

This led to family and friends launching a campaign to bring him home including putting up hundreds of posters in the area and travelling to the likes of Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare to search for him.

They have also set up Facebook group 'Help find John Barrington, Newport' which now has more than 1,100 members.

Mr Barrington's sister Andrea said: "Everything has been donated free of charge to the event by John's friends so all money raised will go straight to the campaign. We just want to keep it in the public eye."

Mr Barrington, who worked as a part-time window cleaner in the area, is described as six feet tall and of a slim build with short brown hair.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a royal blue jacket with white stripes, a blue top and trainers.

He has a tattoo of Batman on his upper right arm and one of Mickey Mouse on his upper left arm.
