FIVE people were arrested on Thursday after a fight broke out in Abergavenny town centre following the wake of a funeral.
Police were called to an incident on St John's Street and High Street just after 5.30pm and arrested the five men for public order offences.
A 54-year-old man from the Abergavenny area was charged with public order offences and appeared at Newport Magistrates Court yesterday.
Four men, aged 25, 26, 28 and 41, from the Abergavenny area, were given fixed penalty notices for public order offences.
Inspector Robert Doidge from Gwent Police said around ten people were involved in the incident following the wake of a funeral.
Ben Jones, owner of the King's Arms, said the pub was not involved in any way apart from providing shelter for the family involved.
The Grasshoppers pub closed voluntarily for the rest of the evening and told the Argus that the incident happened in the square outside.
The Hen and Chickens' manager Fred Oxlade said it had no problems and was not affected by the incident at all.
