NEWPORT documentary maker Stuart Clarke took on his biggest challenge to date when he met the world’s tallest man for his latest film.

5'6" Mr Clarke, 45, spent three weeks with 8ft 2ins Sultan Cozen, 27, at his home in Turkey last year, documenting his quest to find love.

World's Tallest Man: Looking For Love, which is on Channel 4 at 10pm tomorrow, tells the emotional story of Mr Cozen’s upbringing, his family history, medical story and his search for a wife.

Made by Cardiff-based Wild Dreams Films the documentary sees the bachelor go on his first date with a woman and also sees him meet with doctors in America who look at ways to stop his overactive pituitary gland, which is still making him grow. Mr Cozen, who was named the world’s tallest man by the Guinness World Records in 2009, also got the chance to meet America’s tallest man - who is the first person he has been able to look in the eye when standing since he was 13 years old.

Bettws High School old boy Mr Clarke, who started his directing career working on Newcastle teen drama Byker Grove aged 21, said: “He is a modern day giant - he’s the equivalent of a Goliath type character and we wanted to see what his world was like and how the world was with him.

"It is a strange world he lives in and I feel honoured and privilege to have been a part of that.”

The touching tale has already won praise in the film world picking up a 2010 California Film Award, and is up for a prestigious Canadian Banff Film Award in June.

Mr Clarke and his team still keep in touch with Mr Cozen and hope to do a followup documentary when he does find the woman he wants to marry.
