A NEWPORT man was arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault on a young woman.
The 18 year old woman was walking along along Chepstow Road, Newport, close to Iceland and Clarence House, in the early hours of Thursday, when a dark coloured car pulled up alongside her. She got into the car between 4am and 4.15am.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said the woman was driven along Chepstow Road and taken to the Nash Road and Goldcliff area of Newport, where she was seriously sexually assaulted. After the attack, the woman was left in the Nash/Lliswerry area just after 5am.
A 61 year old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently being questioned in custody.
Gwent Police’s serious violent and sexual crime specialist unit is leading the investigation and the woman is being support by specialist officers.
