A TORFAEN mum-of-two is aiming to revive the traditional afternoon tea by opening a pop-up tearoom in her village hall in aid of a local charity.
Julie Nelson, of Ashleigh Court, Henllys, Cwmbran was inspired to hold her first pop-up tea room at Henllys Village Hall tomorrow to raise funds for St Anne's Hospice which has cared for several of her friends relatives.
The former civil servant and estate agent manager has always had a passion for cooking and after being made redundant last year set up Raspberry Catering. Mrs Nelson, 48, recently appeared on the television cookery competition, Britain's Best Dish in April, after beating 3,000 entrants to get into the heats and made a raspberry and white chocolate triffle. "I met a contestant from North Wales who regularly holds supper clubs and the idea came from there," she said.
Mrs Nelson has transformed the hall into a vintage-themed tea room, decorated with vintage china and bunting.
"I wanted to do something different for the charity and am creating an old fashioned tea room, serving tea, cakes and scones," explained Mrs Nelson.
"If it is a success then this will be the first of many held in different locations," she added.
The event runs between 2pm and 4pm. Tickets are £2.75 for afternoon tea and £7.95 high tea for two in advance from Mrs Nelson on 01633 869005.
