Wales' First Minister Carwyn Jones has announced the appointment of the Welsh Government's chief legal officer - a Blaenavon-born man.
Theodore Huckle QC is to be Counsel General-Designate for the Welsh Government, and will be the senior legal voice for the Labour-led administration in the Assembly.
Commenting on the appointment, the First Minister said: "Theodore has a distinguished legal career, and his expertise will prove invaluable as we use our enhanced legal powers to deliver on our commitments for the people of Wales.’’ Mr Huckle, who was born in Blaenavon and educated in Pontypool, was called to the bar in 1985 and specialises in personal injury cases as well as human rights and commerce.
He was awarded silk this year, and works in the Wales and Chester circuit.
Mr Huckle said: "It is a privilege to have been appointed as Counsel General-Designate, particularly at such an exciting time for Wales when the National Assembly will be exercising its new law-making powers for the first time.’’ Mr Huckle succeeds John Griffiths, AM for Newport East, who was made the Welsh Government's environment minister earlier this month.
