A VALLEYS woman says she is "disgusted" after being attacked in her own home and then hearing the woman arrested for it had been issued with a caution.

Kathleen Johnson, 63, of Brynithel, says the incident happened on April 7 following a dispute over her 10-year-old grandchild Maya McCart and a friend playing near a car.

Ms Johnson said she had been looking after the two children who had been playing outside and came in saying they had been told by someone not to play near a car.

Ms Johnson told them to go and play elsewhere but says 10 minutes later at around 8pm, Mrs Johnson said a woman came in to the house through an open door with a man.

She said the woman started attacking her in her own front room while the man looked on.

Ms Johnson, who lives on her own, says the woman then pushed her into a cabinet, forcing Ms Johnson to the floor, before punching her 10 to 15 times and throwing a plant at her.

Ms Johnson told her to go, by which time a neighbour had called the police and the woman was arrested.

Ms Johnson was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, suffering from minor injuries including a black eye and bruising on her arm.

But after police enquiries Ms Johnson said she was told the woman had been issued with a caution.

She said: "I find it disgusting. I was absolutely terrified at the time and didn’t know what was going to happen."

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said a 41 year old woman from Abertillery was arrested in connection with the incident and, that following a full and thorough investigation, was issued with a caution.

She said: "The decision as to whether to a person is charged or cautioned is dependent on the type of crime and previous convictions, among other considerations."
