PUPILS at primary schools across Gwent are busy making an animated film about the Roman ruins at Caerleon.
Youngsters from Somerton Primary School, Caerleon Endowed Junior School, Lodge Hill Junior School, Shirenewton Primary School and Cradoc Primary School’s contributions will centre on the Caerleon Barracks, Caerleon Baths, Caerwent and Brecon Gaer.
The film will form part of the ‘Songs from Stones’ project, organised by Cadw, and aims to teach children about local Roman landmarks as well as giving them valuable lessons in film production.
The children will be in charge of the entire project from researching, storyboarding and designing characters, right up to editing the film and adding the soundtrack.
Judith Bevan, who teaches the year 6 and 7 pupils at Somerton Primary School whose part of the film will tell the story of the Caerleon Amphitheatre, will be create part of the film, admitted it was a great opportunity for them.
He said: "When Cadw made us the offer I jumped at the chance. It’s a great chance for the pupils to learn new skills."
The films will receive their premiere to the public on July 14 at the University of Wales, Newport's Caerleon campus.
