EBBW Vale’s Festival Park will get a newadventure playground, including a zip wire and swing, after plans were approved by Blaenau Gwent council.
The committee granted permission to Cirencester firm Vertigo Pursuits Ltd to build the adventure attraction on land next to the Festival Park shopping outlet in Victoria, Ebbw Vale.
The development will include a 16-metre adventure tower with a “hang loose”
climbing section, a slide and zip line, together with a 16- metre-high swing.
Plans said the development would be built using natural timber, with mental chain supporting some of its features, and the attraction will be surrounded by a twometre high fence.
The report, which went before the planning committee last Thursday, said Vertigo Pursuits’ proposals would continue to develop the Festival Park area, which is located on the former garden festival site of Wales 1992.
It said the shopping centre on the site continues to thrive, but much of the park lands have become neglected.
The report said the attraction would encourage visitors into the park who would visit the shopping centre and vice versa, as well as introducing people to the woodland.
A tubing attraction opened elsewhere on the site, and had now become an “integral part of the Festival Park experience”.
The planning committee approved Vertigo Pursuits proposals with conditions.
