A NEWPORT man who had his “lifeline” bike stolen when he moved into the city now has a new bike thanks to the generosity of a Monmouth resident.

The Argus reported last month how Adam Needs, 25, was left devastated when moving into Nelson Drive in the early hours of April 30 after his Santa Cruz Blur mountain bike was stolen from the roof of a friend’s car.

Mr Needs suffers from a partial mitral valve prolapse, a partial failure of one of the heart valves, and relied on the bike as a way to keep fit while not putting a heavy impact on his heart thereby preventing him from needing further treatment.

After reading about the theft in the Argus, Dr Dick Van Steenis, of Monmouth, felt touched by the case and decided to donate his British Eagle bike to Mr Needs.

Dr Steenis, 76, said: “The bike is almost new as I haven’t needed it for a long time. I saw the article and thought it was a really deserving case.”

Mr Needs said: “I am delighted that there is still kindness in the world. I am really pleased that I can now carry on with my fitness work too.”
