DANNY Bhoy may not have packed out St David’s Hall on Sunday evening, but he made the most of the impromptu intimate gig.

Although a well-known name in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, the Scottish comic is a relative newcomer here, despite success at the Edinburgh Festival, but his recent performance on Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week is helping to raise his profile.

Around 300 people made up the audience and while many comics would take this as a slight, Bhoy seemed to take it in his stride.

He quickly had the crowd in fits of laughter with tales of his career so far including how he finally found himself a flat in London only to discover the landlord was a heckler from a previous show. Bhoy made the most of the smaller crowd getting to know the audience and what they know about him, as well as posing for a few photos for insistent audience members.

Among the subjects under discussion were Scottish drinking habits, Vikings, Australia’s choice of place names, hotel beds and Bhoy’s encounter with Hollywood star Matt Damon during an appearance on The David Letterman Show.

The Cardiff show was only the second date of his ‘Messenger (Please Do Not Shoot)’ tour of the UK and with extra dates already added to venues later down the line, Bhoy is definitely starting to make an impact on the home stage.
