THE mayor of Caldicot is urging dog owners to clean up after their pets following a campaign by pupils at Castle Park Primary School.
Cllr Maria Stevens wants residents to report anyone they see not cleaning up dog mess to Monmouthshire council.
Pupils at the Caldicot school put posters up to deter culprits last month, when they were vandalised and a poop bag was left underneath, according to teacher Sue Wilsher. But nowCllr Stevens wants to emphasise the health hazard element and make irresponsible dog owners pay.
She said: “A £50 fixed penalty fine can be issued and if ignored a further £1,000 if not paid within a set time. So let’s all try and do our bit to stop this disgusting state of affairs.
