GWENT Police have arrested a 15-year-old local boy on suspicion of arson and he is currently in police custody.
Firefighters received a call at 7.15pm, South Wales Fire and Rescue Group Manager Vaughan Jenkins said and crews from New Inn, Malpas, Usk, Caerphilly, Maindee attended the scene.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and managed to stop the fire as it reached the half way point (meaning they saved half the building).
The fire is belived to have started in the roof space and is being treated as suspicious.
Hydrocarbon detection dogs are also helping fire investigators who are currently on site.
The fire is out but officers will remain throughout the night damping down.
