BLAENAU Gwent council revealed more details about its plans to develop Ebbw Vale over the next decade, and is asking residents for their views on the proposals.
The Argus reported last month that the authority had announced eight possible regeneration projects in and around the town centre, including space for up to 1,000 new homes.
The plans have now gone out to consultation, and more details released about possible changes to the town over the next ten years.
Plans for the town centre include “radical” proposals for new offices, shopping facilities and better public transport.
A scheme for the town’s Market Square would “transform”
the area, with a redesign to make it a safe and attractive pedestrian route for people heading into town.
The town’s Southern Gateway could get a sizeable convenience store, as well as a new bus station. It is hoped that links with The Works will also help increase retail trade and business.
For Ebbw Vale’s northern corridor, the proposals include seven sites covering 70 hectares along the new A465 dual carriageway for new business, a commercial leisure facility and newhousing developments.
The two largest sites would be developed for employment and business, three have been chosen for the development of up to 1,000 homes, and two linked sites at Waun-y- Pound roundabout could be used for commercial and leisure facilities.
Blaenau Gwent’s executive member for regeneration, Cllr Don Wilcox, said: “We are ambitious to attract investment and jobsthat will benefit the whole area.
“This is going to be an important phase in the regeneration of Blaenau Gwent – it’s about making a real difference in the years ahead.”
The public consultation will run until Wednesday next week.
