THE case against two directors of a pallet firm where a fire burned for more than nine months was adjourned yesterday.
Gary and Dale Butcher, of Crosskeys Pallets and Wood Waste Ltd, North Blackvein Industrial Estate, Crosskeys, were due to appear in Newport Magistrates’ Court yesterday for a plea hearing.
A fire broke out on the premises owned by the two men in October 2009.
The two men are charged with failing to remove waste deposited on the site in contravention of a notice served under the Environmental Protection Act and two counts of contravening the requirements of an environmental permit.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between April 4, 2010 and February 16 this year.
The company itself is charged with failing to comply with or contravening an enforcement notice or prohibition order and two counts of operating a regulated facility without an environmental permit.
The hearing was adjourned until September 8.
