STAFF and customers of Newport’s Poundland store, on the city’s Commercial Street, raised £9,111.43 for the cancer nursing charity MacMillan Cancer Support.
The figure was the third highest raised through Poundland stores across the UK – and the highest in Wales – as part of a company-wide fundraising project for the charity that has brought in £345,000 in two years.
“Everyone, unfortunately, seems to be affected by cancer at some point, whether it is themselves, a family member or friend, and I think this is why Poundland’s fundraiser for Macmillan has struck a chord. Our customers have been very generous and their support of staff collecting is fantastic,”
said Newport branch assistant manager Leigh Mitchell.
Sharon Cottam, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support praised the “overwhelming”
support of the branch.
