FANCY dress was donned by around 85 locals at the weekend for a two-hour zumbathon in Caldicot to raise funds for the Sparkle Appeal.
A cow and flowers were among the costumes at Severn View Social Club for the challenge organised by zumba teacher, Laura Davies, 23, of Newport.
The dancers moved along to the music which included live drums, played by Jonathan Case, to earn their sponsor money which will be donated towards helping 1,200 Gwent children to benefit from the Serennu Children’s Centre in High Cross.
Tickets sold to each participant were £10.
A raffle also raised £300 while a donation made by Barclays bank also added £750 to the total.
With sponsorship money still coming in, Miss Davies is now hoping to exceed the £3,000 mark for the event.
She said: “A lot of the women I teach have children at the centre and I have heard what a great building it is but know money is still needed.
“The atmosphere was brilliant at the event.”
