TREVETHIN teenager Jodie Hughes is this year’s Pontypool carnival queen.
The 16-year-old, who has just finished her GCSEs at Abersychan School, was entered for the competition by her mum.
Jodie, who will start at Cross Keys College in September studying law, has been involved in the Pontypool Carnival before when she held the role of court attendant.
Her 13-year-old sister, Melissa, will also be a carnival queen this year for the Trevethin and Penygarn Carnival.
The final preparations are now in place for the Pontypool Carnival, which takes place on July 9 where Jodie will be joined by attendant Katie Smith, flower girl Nyah Strange, rosebud Tia Ireland and pageboy Tristian O’Keefe.
Spectators will be able to join the colourful procession as it passes through Pontypool town centre and live music will be played at The Link as dragon bands take to the stage.
There will also be carnival mask making workshops held by Creative Unity as well as face painters and street entertainers.
