PUPILS at a Newport school are getting the opportunity to learn in the fresh air through its new outdoor classroom.
Malpas Church in Wales infants school developed its community outdoor project through a Business in the Community link with Wales and West Utilities.
A sandpit and sensory garden have been created through the link, and the PTA (Parent Teacher Association has also got involved, to provide a building – christened Twmbarlwm House by pupils – and a range of equipment such as tricycles, designed to stimulate their physical development.
The school celebrated the opening of the house and the other facilities with a week of activities under the banner ‘count me in’, which included music, sport and a chance for the children to learn some circus skills.
Head teacher Annette James said the school is looking to continue the business link to provide more facilities for the outdoor classroom.
She thanked everyone who had helped the school to provide the facilities for the children.
