COFFEE, tea and biscuits were among the refreshments on offer at St Woolos primary school, Newport, as pupils took part in a Fairtrade event.

Parents and people from the community around the school, on Stow Hill, were invited to come in for a drink and a bite to eat as part of the pupils’ drive to raise the profile of Fairtrade.

The school has earned an Eco-Schools programme Green Flag for its environmental awareness and its Fairtrade project is part of its ongoing commitment to green issues.

The event was supported by Newport’s Sainsburys store and by Co-op in Newbridge. It also included a raffle to raise money towards the more than £1,000 needed for a flagpole to display the school’s Green Flag.
