A KITTEN was dumped near a skip after being bitten by a dog and having its leg crushed.
Veterinary orthopaedic surgeon Russell Chandler, who operated on seven-week-old Precious, described it as cruel and inexcusable.
The black and white kitten was found abandoned in a box behind a skip by a member of the public last Wednesday who handed her in to Budget Vets saying she was found in Blackwood.
She was then transferred to Alphavet Vetinary Centre in Pontymister for her operation.
As well as the fracture to her back right leg, the wounds were infected and her back right paw was injured.
Mr Chandler said the wounds and thigh, which was crushed, appears to have been caused by dog bites and her leg had been broken for around a week.
He added: "To dump a kitten behind a skip is a very cruel thing to do - it's terrible and there's no excuse for it."
Treatment costs have hit £800 and Gwent Cats Protection, who is looking after Precious and funding the treatment, expect costs to surpass £1,600.
The operation on Friday saved her leg from amputation, and Precious now has two pins in her leg.
Loretta Kedward, of Gwent Cats Protection, said: "We are at a loss as to how anyone could treat this adorable, innocent kitten with such appalling callousness. Once again a tiny, defenceless kitten has become a victim of heartless human cruelty leaving volunteers in despair."
Anyone with information about Precious can call Gwent Cats Protection on 0845 371 2747 who will pass it to the RSCPA and Gwent Police.
