LEWIS Hamilton’s 2008 World Championship-winning car took pride of place at Newport’s Hilton Hotel yesterday ahead of a fundraising event in aid of the Argusbacked Sparkle Appeal.
The hotel chain is sponsoring the McLaren Formula One team this season and so staff in Newport decided to hold a Grand Prix-themed fundraiser in aid of their chosen charity, Sparkle.
Teams of four will use cardiovascular gym equipment to try to cover the equivalent distance of various Grand Prix circuits, competiting against each other to see who is the quickest.
Staff will also take on a feat of their own at the event on Sunday, as part of the Hilton’s ‘Around the World in a Day’ challenge, where hotel employees from across the world will attempt to cover 24,901.55 miles, the circumference of the Earth, on the equipment.
The Newport team has chosen the Sparkle Appeal as their charity of the year for the past two years and will be donating any funds raised to the cause. For more information on how to take part, contact the Hilton on 01633 413737.
