A NEWPORT teenager is holding a charity dance show to raise funds to help buy a headstone for her young cousin.

Mibinti Webbe, 19, of Pill, will hold the show at Pill Millennium Centre next month to raise the funds to help buy the headstone for her cousin Taiviann Alize McDonald Smith, who was from Birmingham.

Taiviann died, aged six, in September 2009 from kidney disorder nephrotic syndrome which is when filters in the kidney leak an excessive amount of protein.

The condition would cause the youngster’s body to swell and despite undergoing medication, she died on September 1 after suffering a relapse while travelling back home from Pill where she had appeared in the carnival.

Since then the family have been coming to terms with their loss and have not yet been able to buy a headstone for Taiviann’s grave which is estimated to cost around £4,000.

Family and friends have been grouping together to help raise funds including Miss Webbe who volunteers at the Music Art Drama Dance Development 4 Kidz group at the Millennium Centre.

Now with around 40 members of the group, she plans to put on the charity dance performance which will take place on July 17 from noon until 4pm.

She said: “I was really close to my cousin and just want to do all I can to help get the headstone.”
