IT ALL smacks a little of a nanny state when the elderly are now being told they should reduce the amount of alcohol they drink.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists says people over 65 should drink the equivalent of just over about half a pint of beer or a small glass of wine a day.
We’re sorry, but who are these people that think they can dictate what others drink?
If they want to advise on drinking maybe they’d better concentrating their efforts on the young, the ones who drink to excess and cause trouble, the ones who go out fighting because they can’t handle their drink.
A report states older drinkers are less able to process alcohol and the drink might also interact with medication they may be taking for other ailments.
Clearly the authors think older people have no common sense.
The older generation know how to handle their drink responsibly.
They don’t need to be told how to enjoy themselves by a group of anonymous experts.
