GWENT Independent Film Trust is set to get a funding boost from Gwent Police and the University of Wales, Newport.
The trust was established following the successful road safety film, Cow, a collaboration between the police and the university.
The film, directed by Peter Watkins-Hughes, had more than 5.5 million views on internet video channel YouTube.
The trust, also known as Gift, was registered as a charity last month and is in the process of securing distribution agreements, both in the US and worldwide.
While these deals are being finalised, in order to advertise, register applications and fund new productions, the Gift board has asked for grant support. Gwent Police and the University of Wales, Newport, have considered a contribution of £19,000.
The university approved its share of the funds on June 13, now Gwent Police Authority’s Authority’s Audit and Resources committee is being asked to recommend they release the funds from the Police Property Fund.
To committee will discuss the funds at its meeting on June 30.
