MORE than 60 people braved a 177ft abseil off the Newport Transporter Bridge yesterday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Each abseiler was asked to raise a minimum of £100 ahead of the challenge to mark the charity’s centenary year.
But the charity’s fundraising manager for Gwent, Paula Langston, who also took part, said people usually raise much more.
She said: “We have had three people who have raised at least £1,000 and everyone usually raises at least £300.
“It has been fantastic today and there has been great support.”
Argus reporter Ruth Mansfield was among the abseilers, raising more than £350. Another abseil will take place at Chepstow National Dive Centre on August 28 in aid of Macmillan. For more information, e-mail plangston@macmillan.org.uk or elspeth_hardie@ yahoo.co.uk
