Eagles tribute act Talon proved they clearly have as big a following as the band they emulate when playing to a packed house at Newport Riverfront on Saturday evening.
It was clear that Chris Lloyd, Peter Anderson, Jonny Miller and Tony Vegas have studied the music of The Eagles to perfection. As the bands 50 date spring tour drew to a close, Talon showed no signs of flagging as they paid homage to The Eagles Farewell 1 Tour performed in Melbourne Australia in 2004. “We’ve saved the best till last” confirmed vocalist Chris Lloyd praising both the Riverfront venue and the enthusiastic audience in attendance.
Classics such as “The Long Run” and “New Kid in Town” displayed the bands versatility a wide variety of instruments while enigmatic guitarist Tony Vegas and guest musician Keith Buck dazzled the audience with several guitar solos.
Other highlights included a powerful rendition of Don Henley’s The Boys of Summer featuring excellent support from percussionists Craig Wainwright and Charlie Kelly and Jonny Miller’s arrangement of “Love Will Keep Us Alive”. Talon also displayed a beautifully harmonic rendition of the 9/11 tribute “Hole in the World”, while the audience gave full participation to the track “Lyin’ Eyes”.
No tribute to The Eagles would be complete without the classics “Hotel California” and “Desperado”, which Talon duly delivered to perfection in the encore bringing a great night of classic rock to a climax.
Talon fans will be pleased to know that the band will be touring again in September, if you love the music of The eagles be sure to catch them!
