BUSINESSES in Blackwood have established a new retail partnership to promote the town centre and protect traders from things like thefts and vandalism.
The town council and Gwent Police will also be involved in the new group which includes representatives of independent traders such as Lambert’s, Zak’s and the Plaza Cafe and chain stores like Boots, Argos, Peacocks and New Look.
Town centre development manager Andrew Highway brought all the parties together to allow them to work together, offering support and advice, ironing out problems that affect them.
The first issue the group will focus on is data sharing with the police, a move aimed at reducing retail theft in the town centre.
Phil Lambert of Lambert’s schoolwear is the first chairman.
Cllr Ron Davies, Caerphilly council’s cabinet member for regeneration welcomed the move.
He said: “Blackwood is a strategic shopping destination offering a healthy mix of national retailers and smaller independent stores. It’s good to see that they are all working together to promote the town centre and I’m sure many positive developments will result from the new partnership.”
