AN 87-YEAR-OLD man died in hospital after being rescued when a tractor rolled over at a Newport farm.
It is understood that he was driving the tractor when it rolled over and he became trapped on private land at Duffryn Court Farm, Bassaleg, just after 5pm on Monday.
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Duffryn and Malpas to the farm to free the man. A South Wales Ambulance Service spokesman said: “An 87- year-old man had been involved in an accident with a tractor. He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, suffering from minor head and shoulder injuries.”
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said a crash involving a tractor happened on private land and an elderly gentleman was taken to hospital, where he subsequently died.
People in Basseleg say the man, who has not been named, died of a suspected heart attack.
The Health and Safety Executive is investigating and is liaising with police and making further inquiries.
