A HAIRDRESSER who proved a cut above on national television has swopped the streets of the Valleys for London after being taken on by a celebrity hair stylist.

Bradley Robinson, who won the high-profile Jamie's Apprentice competition on ITV's This Morning, is now working for Nicky Clarke, whose hair products grace the shelves of our shops.

The 17-year-old has already had a taste of working with the stars, after creating a stylish up-do for Melinda Messenger on the television show, breezing through five weeks of live challenges.

His CV impressed Nicky Clarke and a successful interview saw him start four days later.

Since the age of 12, Bradley has been mentored by his best friend's mum Clare Jones, who runs Abersychan salon Hair on Harper.

Ms Jones said the young man's former clients have brought cards in for him, after hearing of his success.

"Obviously, I am really sad to lose him because he's like a son to me. But it's a chance of a lifetime for Bradley and he has to take it," she said.

Deputy skills minister Jeff Cuthbert, for the Welsh Government, said Bradley's success showed how valuable apprenticeships or vocational training can be.

"I hope this will be an inspiration to other young people who are considering taking up an apprenticeship," he said.
